The Causes of Dark Circles and How to Get Rid of Them

Nobody likes dark circles, because they give face a tired and unhealthy look.
There are various ways to cover dark circles, but the most important thing is to treat the cause. In this article, you will learn about what may cause dark circles and how to treat them.

So... let's start with possible causes!

Dark circles, in addition to being  the first serious sign of aging, often are the first signal that body sends to us if ther is some problem or disbalance. They may be the first indication of a more serious disease. Because of that, you should pay attention and distinguish them by shape, color, puffiness...

Some of diseases that will, among other things, cause dark circles are problems with kidneys, severe anemia, stress, cardiovascular diseases, smoking, passive smoking, excessive exposure to the sun...

Swollen dark circles

Dark circles that have swollen, are the most common indicator of water retention and creation of fatty tissue in the area around the eyes. If you have dark under eye circles for a long time, for example several months, and they have turned into hanging dark bags, it's the final moment to check your blood, because perhaps you are anemic. In fact, anemia is one of the most common causes of dark bags under the eyes, especially if accompanied by headache, fatigue, poor concentration, learning problems and poor memory.

Check the kidneys and liver

Some of the causes of dark circles are problems with the liver and kidneys. So, if you have dark under eye circles with yellow-brown bumps, arrange to see your doctor as soon as possible.

Perhaps it's allergy?

Even those allergic to pollen have problems with dark circles. In fact, they have the common neurodermatitis caused by frequently nose wiping and rubbing itchy eyes, and this contributes to development of pigmentation and irritation of the delicate eyelid skin.

Or maybe you just don't sleep enough?

Human body needs 6-8 hours of sleep. If you are sleep-deprived, you'll have the dark circles! So, try to organize your life to get some sleep!

...and maybe you're dehydrated?

Again with the numbers 6-8. As you need to sleep 6-8 hours, so you have to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day in order to stay healthy, and reduce those ugly dark circles!

These are the possible causes of dark cirles, but... how to treat them?

How to treat dark circles

As I mentioned before, drink plenty of water and make sure you get enough sleep! This is essential if you want to get rid of dark circles.

It is good to take multivitamins. Experts recommend B12, B6 and vitamin K.

If the cause is allergy, antihistamines will help you, but only with the advice and recommendation of your doctor.

Adjust your diet. Often we neglect that the skin is an organ and it's the largest one on the body. If you eat junk food, that will be visible on your face. Try to change your eating habits, by adding a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. Also, try to add salmon to your diet, because it is rich in astaxanthin, a carotenoid that contribute to the increased elasticity, and also avocado and eggs because they are rich in biotin, or vitamin B7. Reduce salt intake because too much salt in the body can result in water retention and slowing the circulation, and thus the appearance of dark circles.
Also, try replacing coffee with green tea.

Breathe properly! The most important food of our blood is oxygen. Increased intake of nicotine into the body leads to reduced production of collagen and as a result you get wrinkles and reduced elasticity of the skin. Smoking also leads to a narrowing of blood vessels, and thus to a reduced supply of oxygen to the skin. So if you are a smoker, try to stop smoking, or at least reduce the amount of cigarettes.
You can also try breathing exercises, which you can see and learn more about, in this video by Acharya Shree Yogeesh.

Nourish your skin. Do not forget personal hygiene routine - cleansing and removing make-up, for which purpose you can use a bit of cotton wool moistened with a few drops of vegetable oil or vegetable milk. It is essential that preparations of natural cosmetics contain highly valuable base oils such as apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, pomegranate seed oil.

You can try to reduce dark circles, with one of the oldest recipes - using slices of cucumber. Thanks to the cold slices of this vegetable which is made up of 95 percent water, blood vessels will constrict and thus temporarily reduce puffiness under the eyes. This method is definitely the cheapest and extremely simple, but equally short-lived.

It is known that cold packs relieve the appearance of dark circles. So for baggy dark circles, put the slices of potatoes, pre-cooled in the refrigerator and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes.

Perhaps the best known method used to refresh tired eyes is chamomile tea. Put cooled down tea bags on your eyes, and hold them for 20-30 minutes. Green tea is equally effective.

For wrinkles and dark circles, stir egg white and apply it gently around eyes. As the egg dries, you will feel the tension. Leave for twenty minutes, then rinse with cold water.

And finally, there is makeup. You can use use a concealer to reduce their appearance. See how, in this video by Carli Bybel.
